Gallatin is a city in Sumner County, Tennessee, with a population of around 40,000 residents. Gallatin is located about 30 miles northeast of Nashville and is considered part of the Nashville metropolitan area.

History

Gallatin was established in 1802 and named after Albert Gallatin, the Secretary of Treasury under President Thomas Jefferson. Gallatin was originally built around a waterway called the Cumberland River and early industries included distilleries and tobacco processing. Much of Gallatin's early growth and development is attributed to steamboat travel and trading via the Cumberland River.
