MidWest City is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 54,371 at the 2010 census, making it the eighth largest city in the state of Oklahoma. MidWest City was established in response to the need for new housing units in the expanding Oklahoma City metropolitan area during World War II. History

MidWest City was originally developed as a housing addition called Military Addition No. 1 to provide housing for military members stationed at Tinker Air Force Base. The area was designed by Harland Bartholomew and Associates in 1941 as a planned community with schools, churches, commercial centers, medical facilities, community buildings, and green space. The first home was completed in October 1941.

During World War II, thousands of housing units were constructed to accommodate workers and their families who came to work in support of the war effort at Tinker. After the war, the population of Military Addition No. 1 declined as many military families moved away. However, it continued to grow as a residential and commercial area serving Tinker Air Force Base.

On March 1, 1948, Military Addition No. 1 was incorporated as the City of MidWest City, with S.W. Holly serving as the first mayor. The city was renamed MidWest City in order to disassociate itself from the military. By 1960, the population had declined to 16,079 residents. However, it rebounded and today MidWest City is primarily a residential suburb with some commercial development.
