Sayreville is a borough located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 45,723. Sayreville was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 6, 1876, from portions of South Amboy Township.

History

Sayreville was originally known as Roundabout for the river bends that surround the community. The name 'Sayreville' was adopted in 1876. It was named for James Sayre Jr. of the Sayre and Fisher brickyard that helped stimulate development in the area.
