Marlboro is a township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the township's population was 40,059, making it one of the largest municipalities in New Jersey. Marlboro became known throughout the country because of the Marlboro tobacco company which marketed its cigarettes as "Marlboro Country".

Population and Demographics

According to the Wikipedia page for Marlboro, the township had a total population of 40,059 as of the 2020 Census, making it the 16th most populous municipality in New Jersey. The racial makeup of Marlboro was 78.50% White, 3.48% African American, 0.16% Native American, 14.15% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.59% from other races, and 2.09% from two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 6.90% of the population.

History of Marlboro

Marlboro was originally formed as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 17, 1848, from portions of Freehold Township. The township was named for the marl industry.

In 1963, residents voted to incorporate Marlboro as a borough. In 1983, Marlboro reverted to township status after voters were persuaded to change its designation back to a township, under a bill approved by the New Jersey Legislature and signed into law by Governor Thomas Kean.

Marlboro War Memorial

A notable landmark in Marlboro is the Marlboro War Memorial located at 577 Wyncrest Road. It is a memorial to Marlboro residents who died during the Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War and War in Afghanistan. The memorial consists of three black granite wall and two tiger sculptures.
