Manchester Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the township population was 43,418. Manchester Township is located in the eastern area of Ocean County, along the Barnegat Bay and adjacent to Toms River.

Manchester Township was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 6, 1865, from portions of Dover Township (now Toms River Township). Portions of the township were taken to form Lakehurst on April 7, 1921.

Manchester Township's name derives from an early influence on the area by English settlers. One of the earliest permanent settlers, Thomas F. Price, was born in Manchester, England, and named the township for his birthplace.

Demographics and Population

As of the 2020 United States Census, there were 43,418 people, 16,417 households, and 11,896 families residing in the township. The population density was 1,342.8 per square mile (518.5/km2). There were 17,360 housing units at an average density of 537.1 per square mile (207.5/km2). The racial makeup was 91.98% (39,960) White, 2.72% (1,182) Black or African American, 0.10% (42) Native American, 2.55% (1,107) Asian, 0.01% (4) Pacific Islander, 1.10% (478) from other races, and 1.55% (672) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.79% (2,514) of the population.

There were 16,417 households, of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18; 58.9% were married couples living together; 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present and 27.3% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the township, the population age was spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 31.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females ages 18 and older there were 91.7 males.

Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari

Six Flags Great Adventure is a theme park located at 1 Six Flags Blvd, Jackson Township, NJ 08527. The park opened in 1974 and covers over 475 acres, making it the second-largest theme park in the world.
