Evesham was originally formed as Eversham in 1672 by English settlers. It was named after Evesham in England. The town was incorporated as Evesham Township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on November 6, 1688. Evesham has an interesting Quaker history. In the early 18th century, Evesham was the center of Quaker life in New Jersey. Quakers from Philadelphia purchased tracts of land in Evesham for farming.
