Bridgewater is a township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 44,464. Bridgewater is located in the center of New Jersey. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area.

According to the 2020 United States Census, Bridgewater has a population of 46,375 people. The racial makeup of the town is 66.50% White, 4.80% African American, 0.10% Native American, 24.80% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.30% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race makes up 6.70% of the population.

History of Bridgewater

Bridgewater Township was originally inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlements in the area were established in the 17th century by Dutch settlers. Bridgewater was officially incorporated as a township in 1749. Historically, Bridgewater was an agricultural community. However, with its convenient location along major transportation routes, it developed rapidly in the late 19th and 20th centuries into a suburb of New York City.
