West Bloomfield is a township located in Oakland County, Michigan. With a population of 64,690 as of the 2010 census, it is one of the larger suburbs of Detroit.

Population and Geography

According to the latest census data, West Bloomfield has a population of 65,637 residents, making it the 11th largest municipality in Michigan. The township has a total area of 31.27 square miles, of which 28.03 square miles is land and 3.24 square miles is water.

History of West Bloomfield

The area that is now West Bloomfield was first settled in the 1820s and 1830s by German immigrant farmers. In the decades that followed, more farmers moved to the area and cleared land for agriculture. In the early 20th century, the township began transitioning from an agricultural community to a residential suburb.

West Bloomfield Township was officially established in 1827 and originally included area that is now part of Orchard Lake Village, Sylvan Lake, Keego Harbor and Orchard Lake. The township incorporated as a charter township in 1984.
