Bel Air South is a census-designated place located in Harford County, Maryland. According to the 2020 census, the population of Bel Air South is 28,079. The town is considered a suburb of Baltimore, located just 30 miles northeast of the city.

History

The area that is now Bel Air South was first settled in the 1740s. It was originally part of a larger area known as Bel Air. In 1838, the section south of Bel Air became informally known as South Bel Air. The arrival of the Maryland and Delaware Railroad in the late 1800s brought economic growth to the area. South Bel Air was officially designated as the census place of Bel Air South in 2000.
