Owensboro is a city located in western Kentucky along the Ohio River in Daviess County. As of the 2020 census, Owensboro had a population of 59,809 making it the third largest city in Kentucky behind Louisville and Lexington. History

Owensboro was founded in 1797 by Colonel David Morton and was originally known as "Yellow Banks" due to the color of the riverfront soil. By 1810, the settlement was formally established as a town and renamed Owensborough, after Colonel Abraham Owen. It was chartered as a city in 1866.
