Naperville is a city located 27 miles west of Chicago in DuPage and Will counties in Illinois. With a population of 147,682 as of the 2020 census, it is the fourth largest city in Illinois. Naperville was voted the best place to live in the United States by Money Magazine in 2006 and 2008.

History of Naperville

Naperville was founded in 1831 by Joseph Naper. Naper constructed a sawmill on the DuPage River and was soon joined by other settlers. The city was incorporated in 1857. Naperville's early economy was based on agriculture and quarrying limestone. The city grew rapidly in the late 20th century as Chicago's suburbs expanded. Historic attractions in Naperville include the Naper Settlement outdoor museum.

As of the 2020 census, Naperville had a population of 147,682 residents. This makes it the 3rd largest city in the state of Illinois after Chicago and Aurora. The racial makeup of the city is 75.4% White, 5.3% African American, 14.3% Asian, and 13.3% Hispanic or Latino.
