Roswell is a city located in north Fulton County, Georgia, USA. According to the 2020 census, the population of Roswell was 94,786, making it one of the largest cities in Georgia.

History

Roswell was founded in 1854 as a settlement around a cotton mill next to Vickery Creek. It was originally named Vickery's Creek after the stream that runs through the area. In 1856, the name was changed to Roswell after Roswell King, the principal investor of the mill and a prominent businessman. He was the father of Barrington King, who famously rescued Southern women held captive by the Union Army after the Battle of Atlanta during the Civil War. Roswell is the 8th largest city in Georgia by population. The racial makeup of Roswell is 62.7% White, 11.5% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 17.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.6% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. 8.6% of the population is Hispanic or Latino of any race.
