New Britain is a city in Hartford County in the U.S. state of Connecticut, located approximately 9 miles southwest of Hartford. As of the 2020 census, New Britain had a population of 72,013 people, making it the 8th largest city in Connecticut.

History

New Britain was settled in 1687 and was originally part of the town of Farmington. It was incorporated as its own town in 1850 and became a city in 1871. For much of its history, New Britain's economy relied heavily on manufacturing, earning itself the nickname "Hardware City."
