Greenwich is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town had a total population of 63,781. Greenwich is home to many hedge funds and other financial service companies. It is one of the wealthiest communities in the United States.

History

Greenwich was settled in 1640 by English Puritans. The town was named after Greenwich, a royal borough of London. For its first 300 years, Greenwich was mostly an agricultural community. By the 19th century, the town had become a suburb of New York City. Wealthy families built grand estates in Greenwich.

The racial makeup of the town was 82.35% White, 2.42% Black, 0.1% Native American, 10.76% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.15% from other races, and 2.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.03% of the population.
