Worth is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. According to the 2020 census, the population of Worth was 10,834. Worth was first incorporated as a village in 1917. The village has a total area of 2.42 square miles, all land.

As of the 2020 census, Worth had a population of 10,834 people. The racial makeup of Worth is 76.3% White, 3.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.9% Asian, 13.8% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. 23.1% of the population is Hispanic or Latino of any race.

History of Worth

The history of Worth dates back to the early 1800s when the area was still prairie land. In the 1830s and 1840s, Dutch, German and Luxembourgian immigrants began settling in the area, farming the land. The main village of Worth sprouted up around the intersection of Oak Park Ave and 111th Street.

Worth was incorporated as a village in 1917. The village was named after General William Jenkins Worth, a commander during the Mexican-American War. Incorporation allowed Worth to provide municipal services to residents and control local zoning and development.
