New Berlin is a city located in Waukesha County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, approximately 15 miles west of downtown Milwaukee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,469 making it the 4th largest community in Waukesha County. New Berlin was first settled in 1838 by immigrants from Saxony, Prussia and England. It was originally part of the Town of Muskego and known as Muskego Settlement. The name New Berlin was chosen in 1839 and the city was incorporated in 1842. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, New Berlin transformed from a small rural farming community to a growing city and popular summer retreat from Milwaukee. The electric interurban railroad in the early 1900s allowed easy access between Milwaukee and New Berlin. The city has since continued to expand as both a suburb of Milwaukee and a thriving community in its own right.

As of the 2020 census, New Berlin had a population of 40,469 residents. Between 1990 and 2010, the city's population nearly doubled showing the rapid growth of the community. The racial makeup of New Berlin is predominantly white (91.7%) with small percentages of other races including Asian, African American and Hispanic or Latino. The median age is 42.3 years old. The average household size is 2.54 persons.
