Edmonds is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. It is located in the southwest corner of the county, facing Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. The population of Edmonds was 41,709 as of the 2020 census.

History

The city was named for logger and merchant George Brackett Edmonds, who arrived in what is now downtown Edmonds in 1876. He established a general store, hotel, and logging operations. In 1890, the Great Northern Railway arrived in the area and passenger ferry service from Edmonds to Kingston began in summer months.

Edmonds was officially incorporated on August 14, 1890 as an official "fourth class city" with a population of 532. In the early 1900s, Edmonds began to grow as a resort destination for recreation and for visitors arriving by steamship. The first local hotel opened in 1904 and the city's pier was built in the 1910s.
