Burien is a city in King County, Washington, located just south of Seattle. With a population of over 50,000, Burien has grown rapidly in recent decades as a suburb of Seattle. Once a rural area dotted with farms and wilderness, today Burien is a thriving residential and commercial hub.

History

The area that is now Burien was originally inhabited by the Duwamish tribe before white settlers arrived in the mid-1800s. Logging and farming were early industries, but the town did not really begin to take shape until the early 1900s when land was cleared and roads were built connecting the area to Seattle. Burien was officially incorporated as a city in 1993 after voting to separate from unincorporated King County.
