History of Mechanicsville

Mechanicsville has a long and rich history. It was originally called Atlee's Station after the nearby railroad station which itself was named for General William Atlee, a Revolutionary War officer. The area was the site of the Battle of Beaver Dam Creek on June 26, 1862 during the American Civil War. This was one of the opening conflicts of the Seven Days Battles.
