West Jordan is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. West Jordan is a rapidly growing suburb of Salt Lake City and has a population of 116,480 as of the 2020 census. It is the fourth largest city in Utah.

History

West Jordan was established in 1849 by Mormon settlers. The first settlers were the Joel H. Johnson family. The community was originally known as "North Jordan" and later renamed "West Jordan" to distinguish it from the nearby community of North Jordan. Significant growth in West Jordan began in the 1970s, as part of a general migration of the Salt Lake Valley population southward. The city has developed rapidly since the 1990s and continues to grow.
