History

Provo was first settled in 1849 by Mormon pioneers who were sent by Brigham Young to establish Fort Utah in the valley. The first permanent settlers arrived in Spring 1850. The city was originally named Fort Utah until it was renamed Provo in 1852 after Etienne Provost, an early fur trapper in the region.
