History

Ogden was founded in 1844 by Miles Goodyear, who established a trading post at the junction of the Weber and Ogden rivers. The city was named after Peter Skene Ogden, a Canadian explorer who worked for the Hudson's Bay Company.

When the first transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869, Ogden became an important railroad hub due to its location. This stimulated the local economy and population growth. Ogden incorporated as a city in 1851.
