With a population of 78,014 as of the 2020 census, Layton is the largest city in Davis County, Utah. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield metropolitan area and is located about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City.

History of Layton

Layton was settled in the 1850s as an outgrowth of Kaysville. It was originally known as Kays Creek Settlement. The city was incorporated in 1920 and was named after Christopher Layton, one of the early settlers in the area. Layton grew slowly in its early years, but experienced rapid growth and development after World War II. Major residential and commercial expansion took place in the 1970s and 1980s. Today, Layton remains one of the fastest growing cities in Utah.

According to the 2020 US Census, Layton had a population of 78,014 residents. The racial makeup of the city was 89.3% White, 1.7% Black or African American, 0.8% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 3.6% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino residents of any race made up 10.4% of the population.

The median age in Layton is 32.8 years. 22.5% of residents are under the age of 18 while 11.7% are over the age of 65. There are an average of 3.16 people per household. The median household income is $77,397.
