Mansfield is a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex located mostly in Tarrant County with small parts extending into Ellis and Johnson counties in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 71,608 making it one of the fastest growing cities in the nation.

Population and Demographics

In the 2010 census, the population was 56,368, representing a 125.2% increase since 2000 when the population was 25,000. It is now the 16th most populous city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The racial makeup of the city is 69.1% White, 10.5% African American, 0.6% Native American, 6.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 9.5% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races.

History of Mansfield

Mansfield was founded in 1856 by settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. It was originally named Mansfield after Mansfield Jones, a surveyor who helped lay out the town. In 1873, the Texas & Pacific Railway came through town, helping it grow into a center for cotton and cattle. Mansfield was incorporated in 1909.
