Leander traces its origins back to the 1850s when the town was known as Bagdad. The town was located along the route of the Chisholm Trail used by cowboys to drive cattle to Kansas. In 1882, the town was renamed Leander after the son of a railroad official. The town grew slowly over the years serving as a small railroad stop and farming community.

Leander Station

Leander Station is a historic train station and railroad museum located in downtown Leander. It was built in 1883 and served as a stop on the Austin and Northwestern Railroad. The building is an excellent example of late 19th century railroad architecture. Today, it houses a railroad museum.
