History

Grapevine was first settled in the early 1840s. It was named for the wild grapes that grow in the area. The settlement serving as a trading post between several native American tribes. By 1845, Grapevine served as a halfway point for the California Trail between Fort Worth and Dallas. The first post office opened in 1860. In the late 1860s, Grapevine became a market center due to its proximity to the cattle drives heading north from Austin and San Antonio along the Chisholm Trail. The community continued to grow with the arrival of the railroads. Grapevine incorporated as a town in 1907, and then as a city in 1936 [1].

As of the 2020 census, Grapevine had a population of 57,093. The racial and ethnic composition of the population was 76.6% white, 6.5% Black or African American, 0.5% Native American, 4.8% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 8.3% from other races, and 3.2% from two or more races. 24.4% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race [2].
