College Station is a city in Brazos County, Texas, United States. Located in east-central Texas in the heart of the Brazos Valley, it is 90 miles (140 km) northwest of Houston and 87 miles (140 km) northeast of Austin. As of the 2020 census, College Station had a population of 116,658, making it the 18th-most populous city in Texas and the 201st-most populous city in the United States. College Station and Bryan together anchor the Bryan–College Station metropolitan area, the 16th-largest metropolitan area in Texas with 282,080 residents as of 2020.

History

College Station owes its beginnings to the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway, which was chartered in 1853. The railroad selected the site on which the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, known today as Texas A&M University, would be located in 1876. The city was officially incorporated in 1938. According to the 2020 US Census, College Station had a population of 116,658 people. The racial makeup of the city was 75.4% White, 8.4% African American, 0.3% Native American, 10.9% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.5% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race made up 10.5% of the population.

The median age in College Station was 21.8 years. 14.5% of the population was under the age of 18; 43.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 22.4% were from 25 to 44; 11.6% were from 45 to 64; and 8.4% were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females, there were 104.7 males.

Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University is a public research university located in College Station. It was founded in 1876 and opened in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, and is the flagship institution of the Texas A&M University System. The university has an enrollment of over 69,000 students, making it the largest university in Texas and the second largest university in the United States by enrollment. Texas A&M's designation as a land, sea, and space grant institution reflects a range of research with ongoing projects funded by agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of Naval Research.

George Bush Presidential Library and Museum

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is the presidential library of George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States. Located on the southwest corner of the Texas A&M campus, it was dedicated on November 6, 1997, and opened to the public shortly thereafter. Kyle Field

With a seating capacity of 102,733, Kyle Field is the largest football stadium in Texas and the SEC.
