History

The area where Carrollton now stands was once inhabited by Native American tribes including the Kadohadacho, Lenape, and Kickapoo. The Peters Colony purchased the land in the 1840s with the intent to create a settlement. In 1844, the first settlers arrived in the area that would become Carrollton. In 1913, the town was incorporated and renamed Carrollton after Carrollton Illinois, the former hometown of many of its settlers. The city has seen enormous growth since World War II.
