History of Atascocita

The land that is now Atascocita was originally inhabited by the Akokisa Indians. Early European settlers began arriving in the 1830s, establishing ranches and farms in the area. One of the first settlers was a trader named Joshua Brown, who opened a trading post along the San Jacinto River in 1838.

In the early 1900s, developers began purchasing land to establish planned communities. In 1913, O.F. Allen began developing Atascocita Gardens. More neighborhoods and subdivisions followed over the decades, eventually leading Atascocita to incorporate as a city in 2008.
