Levittown was created in 1952 by developer William Levitt as an affordable housing option for young families moving to the suburbs after World War II. At its peak, a new house was completed every 16 minutes! Levitt's revolutionary methods allowed thousands of moderate-income families to achieve the American dream of homeownership.

While Levittown offered post-war families an affordable place to live, it also reflected the racial attitudes of the times. The community was originally restricted to whites only until a legal ruling in the 1950s finally opened housing to African American families. Today, Levittown is a fully integrated, diverse suburb.
