With a population of over 50,000 residents, Levittown, Pennsylvania is a thriving suburban community located in southeastern Bucks County. Once farmland, Levittown was developed in the 1950s as one of the first mass-produced suburbs in the United States. Today, Levittown retains its classic suburban charm while continuing to grow and evolve.

History of Levittown

Levittown was created in 1952 by developer William Levitt as an affordable housing option for young families moving to the suburbs after World War II. Based on the principles of mass production, Levitt was able to quickly and efficiently construct thousands of nearly identical Cape Cod and ranch style homes. At its peak, a new house was completed every 16 minutes! Levitt's revolutionary methods allowed thousands of moderate-income families to achieve the American dream of homeownership.

While Levittown offered post-war families an affordable place to live, it also reflected the racial attitudes of the times. The community was originally restricted to whites only until a legal ruling in the 1950s finally opened housing to African American families. Today, Levittown is a fully integrated, diverse suburb.
