Abington is a township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2020 census, the township had a total population of 55,310 making it the second most populous township in Montgomery County. Abington is conveniently located north of Center City Philadelphia and is considered part of the Philadelphia Metro Area.

History of Abington

Abington was incorporated as a township in 1704 and was named after Abington, Northamptonshire, England. The land that comprises Abington today was purchased from the native Lenape people by William Penn in 1682 as part of Pennsylvania colony. Early settlers were mostly English, and many belonged to the Religious Society of Friends or Quakers.
