McMinnville is a city located in Yamhill County in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 34,352, making it the largest city in Yamhill County. McMinnville is located at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Yamhill River in Oregon's Wine Country.

History

Geography and Climate

McMinnville is located at 45°12′N 123°11′W (45.200, −123.183). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.58 square miles (27.39 km2), all land.

McMinnville has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csb). The average August high temperature is 88 °F (31 °C) and the average February low temperature is 34 °F (1 °C). It lies in the Marine west coast climate zone, and resembles a Mediterranean climate. The rainiest seasons are late fall, winter and early spring. The months from June to September are warm and relatively dry, with average precipitation of about one inch per month.

Demographics

As of the 2020 census, there were 34,352 people, 13,805 households, and 8,702 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,244.8 inhabitants per square mile (1,253.0/km2).

In terms of racial and ethnic makeup, 85% of residents were white, 1.7% Black or African American, 1.4% Native American, 1.5% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 7.1% from other races, and 3.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race made up 16.4% of the population.

In terms of age breakdown, 25.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 9.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.7% were from 25 to 44; 25.5% were from 45 to 64; and 14.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.3% male and 51.7% female.
