Parma is a city located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. With a population of around 80,000, it is one of the largest suburbs of Cleveland.

Population

According to the latest census data, Parma has a population of 79,844 people. It is the seventh largest city in Ohio. Parma saw its peak population in 1970 when over 100,000 people lived in the city. Since then, the population has gradually declined as people moved to newer suburbs further away from Cleveland.

History

Parma was first settled in 1816 and was officially incorporated as a village in 1874. It originally got its name from Parma, Italy. In 1924, Parma adopted a city charter and became a city.

For much of its early history, Parma was primarily an agricultural community. The introduction of streetcars in the early 1900s helped the population expand as it became easier for people to commute to Cleveland for work. After World War II, Parma saw a huge boom in population as it became a hub for working-class families looking for new housing.

Today, Parma retains much of its blue-collar roots but has also diversified its economy with healthcare, retail, food service and other industries.
