Norwich is a city in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 642 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Zanesville, Ohio Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Norwich was laid out in 1826. The community was named after Norwich, in England.[1]

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 642 people, 276 households, and 175 families residing in the village. The population density was 4,280 inhabitants per square mile (1,653.5/km2). There were 308 housing units at an average density of 2,053.3 per square mile (792.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.3% of the population.

There were 276 households, of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.6% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.90.

The median age in the village was 39.3 years. 24.8% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.9% were from 25 to 44; 27.7% were from 45 to 64; and 14.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 47.7% male and 52.3% female.
