Kettering is a city in Montgomery and Greene counties in the U.S. state of Ohio, almost entirely in Montgomery County. It is a suburb of Dayton and part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 55,495, making it the largest suburb in the Dayton area and the state's eighth-largest city outside of Ohio's four largest metropolitan areas.

History

Kettering's history is deeply tied to the inventor Charles F. Kettering and his partner Alfred P. Sloan. In 1914, Delco (the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company) was formed in Dayton, Ohio. It was relocated to the Van Buren Township in 1916 and renamed Moraine City in 1917. The General Motors research laboratories were established there in 1919.
