Cuyahoga Falls is a city located in Summit County, Ohio. With a population of 49,652 as of the 2010 Census, it is the second largest city in Summit County after Akron.

History

Cuyahoga Falls was founded in 1812 by William Wetmore and was originally known as Manchester. The city was named after the Cuyahoga River falls that run through the city. In 1812, Wetmore built a dam on the falls to power his industrial complex, which attracted workers and other businesses to the town.

The Ohio and Erie Canal was constructed through Manchester in the 1830s, which brought more commerce and population growth. The town was incorporated in 1836 and then renamed Cuyahoga Falls in 1842. The city continued to grow as an industrial and manufacturing center through the 19th and early 20th centuries.
