Boardman is a census-designated place in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 35,376 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Population

According to the 2010 census, the population of Boardman was 35,376. Boardman is the largest unincorporated community in Ohio. It surpassed Anderson Township in 2000 as the largest unincorporated community in the state. Boardman has a larger population than 60% of the incorporated cities in Ohio.

History

Boardman was founded in the late 1780s by Elijah Boardman, from Connecticut. Elijah Boardman established the first settlement in Boardman in 1788. The area that is now Boardman was surveyed by David Burr in 1797. In 1798, the area was purchased from the Connecticut Land Company by Judge Aarol Wheeler of Southbury, Connecticut who named the Township after the Honorable William Judson of New Haven, Connecticut. On February 23, 1846, the Township of Boardman was officially formed from Austintown Township by the Court of Common Pleas of Columbiana County.
