History

Akron was founded in 1825 by Simon Perkins and Paul Williams, who surveyed and planned the city. The name Akron comes from the Greek word "akron" meaning summit or high point. Today, while manufacturing remains important, the economy has diversified into polymers, advanced materials, biomedical technology, and information technology.
