History

The town of Union was first settled around 1786. It was formed from part of the town of Chenango in 1791. The community was originally known as "Chenango Point" before being renamed to Union in 1820. Union played an important role in the rise of the dairy industry in New York in the late 1800s. The town's population boomed between 1920 and 1950 as the Endicott Johnson shoe company expanded operations.
