Irondequoit is a town located in Monroe County in the state of New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town had a population of 51,692 residents, making it the third most populous suburb of Rochester and the eighth most populous municipality in the state of New York.

History

Irondequoit's history dates back to the 17th century when French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle traveled through the region. The town's name is derived from a Native American word meaning "land of the rumbling waters", referring to Irondequoit Bay. The first permanent settlement was established in 1812 and the town was officially incorporated in 1839.
