Freeport is a village located on the south shore of Long Island in Nassau County, New York. As of the 2020 census, the population of Freeport was 43,713. Freeport has a rich history dating back to the 17th century and is home to several historic landmarks.

History

Freeport was founded in 1853 after being separated from Hempstead. The village was named after the openness of its port, as the word "freeport" means duty-free or tax-free port. Freeport was incorporated in 1892.
