Clifton Park is a town in Saratoga County, New York, United States. According to the 2020 census, the town's population is 36,758. Clifton Park is located approximately 10 miles north of the city of Albany and makes up the northeasternmost part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The town of Clifton Park was established in 1828. It was formed from the towns of Halfmoon and Waterford. The area was originally inhabited by the Mohican people before Dutch settlers arrived in the 17th century. In the early 19th century, the town became an agricultural community known for its wool production. The Erie Canal was completed in 1825 and brought more settlers and economic growth to Clifton Park.

Some of Clifton Park's early historic sites include the Grooms Tavern, built in 1810, and the Jonesville General Store, built in 1870. The tavern served as an early rest stop along a post road, while the store was a center of commerce in its day. Both buildings are now museums showcasing Clifton Park's local history.

The racial makeup of the town was 89.2% White, 3.7% Asian, 3.1% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.6% from other races, and 3.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race made up 3.4% of the population.

31.8% of households had children under 18 years and 63.2% were married couples. The median household income was $108,865 and the per capita income was $44,806. About 3.3% of the population was below the poverty line.
