Brighton is a town located in Monroe County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town had a population of 36,564 people. Brighton is a suburb of the city of Rochester located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario.

History

The Town of Brighton was established in 1814 from part of the Town of Smallwood. The name "Brighton" was chosen due to similarities to the coastal resort community of Brighton in England. Population

According to the 2020 census, the racial makeup of Brighton was 78.2% White, 7.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 11.2% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.0% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 3.9% of the population.
