Farmington is a city located in San Juan County in northwest New Mexico, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 45,426 residents, making it the largest city in San Juan County. Farmington serves as the county seat and is located at the junction of the San Juan River and the Animas River.

History

Farmington was originally called Junction City because of its location at the junction of the Animas River and San Juan River. It was founded in 1901 to serve the Navajo people who lived in the area.
