History

Oakville was originally called Hydraulic village, named after the Hydraulic Company which built a mill there in 1832. The community incorporated as a village in 1866 and obtained a post office in 1868. Oakville incorporated as a fourth-class city in October 1951. It became a third-class city in June 1983.
