History of Revere

Revere has a long and storied history dating back to the early days of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the 1600s. The area was first settled in 1630 and was originally part of the town of Chelsea. It was named after Paul Revere, the famous Revolutionary War patriot. Revere was known for his famous "Midnight Ride" in 1775 to warn the colonial militia in Concord that British troops were coming.

During the 19th century, Revere transitioned from an agricultural community to a resort town, taking advantage of its coastal location. In the early 20th century it became a vital industrial economy with manufacturing plants and immigrant workers. Revere became an official city in 1915.
