Muncie is a city located in East Central Indiana with a population of around 70,000 residents. Muncie is the seat of Delaware County and is home to Ball State University.

History of Muncie

Muncie was founded in 1827 and was originally called Munsy Town in honor of the Munsee Indians who had inhabited the land. By 1828 the name had evolved into Muncietown and eventually Muncie. The city grew quickly in the late 19th century due to its advantageous location along the White River. Muncie became well known for its natural gas reserves and thriving glassmaking industry. By 1890, Muncie was the third largest city in Indiana. In the early 20th century, Muncie became a center of automobile manufacturing and was home to the Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company which later became Ball Corporation. As of 2019, Muncie had an estimated population of 67,430 residents, making it the 11th largest city in Indiana.
