Wayne is a village located primarily in DuPage County with a small section in Kane County in Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the village had a population of 2,431 residents. Despite its small size, Wayne has a rich history and several attractions for visitors and residents.

History

Wayne was first settled in 1836 and was originally known as Wayne Station. The village was named after General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, a hero of the Revolutionary War. Wayne Station acted as a stop along the railroad line between Geneva and Aurora. Over the next few decades, more settlers moved to the area and farms began to spread out around the village center.

By the 1870s, Wayne had grown into a small community with a railway depot, shops, churches, and a school. The town was officially incorporated in 1901. Through the early 20th century, Wayne remained a small farming village. However, with the rise of suburban growth across DuPage County after World War II, Wayne's population grew steadily. Today, Wayne retains its small-town charm while serving as a suburban residential community for commuters to Chicago and other nearby cities.
