Streamwood is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,108 making it one of the larger suburbs of Chicago. Streamwood is located approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.

The history of Streamwood dates back to the 1830s when the area was first settled. The community was originally known as Groot's Purchase after early settler Baron van Groot. The Streamwood area was primarily agricultural into the 20th century. Following World War II, suburban residential development led to rapid population growth.
