History of Schaumburg

The earliest residents of the Schaumburg area were members of the Sauk, Fox, Potawatomi, and Kickapoo Native American tribes. By the mid-19th century, German and Dutch farmers had settled in the region. In 1835, Trumball Kent purchased 68 acres of land along the Elgin and Belvidere Plank Road in Cook County, now known as Old Schaumburg Centre. The area was incorporated as a village on March 7, 1956.
